Transit Connect 2015 - Broken Ignition and spare key
Received the call for this one yesterday. Unfortunately due to the snow caused by Storm Goretti I was unable to get to the customers home address in Tamworth until today.
This was a Ford Transit Connect 2015 - with again the sticking Ford Ignition.
I was able to remove the ignition with relative ease. The ignition is very similar to that of a Transit Custom which shares the same HU101 lockset/key type.
The job was a reasonably drawn out one as the key order I had placed did not arrive, so I had to generate and programme an after market key for the customer to get them back up and running again. To compound matters the freezing temperatures defeated me whilst attempting to place the new wafers in the Ignition… I admitted defeat and headed home for lunch in the warm where I could build the ignition and return a short time later with it in working order. Thankfully this job was around the corner from home or I would have had to have struggled on!
After the ignition barrel was rebuilt and greased, I placed it back into the housing and replaced the immobiliser coil and cowling. I then used my Key Programmer to programme in the new key. In this case due to the age of the vehicle the remote was a Manual Programming. In this case I had to use a working key to cycle the ignition 8 times before hearing the chime for programming, where I pressed the lock button on the new remote before hearing the chime to know it has been accepted. I then cycled the ignition one more time to save the new remote and the job was complete!
If your ignition is starting to stick, call me before it is too late!
This package can be between £200-£300 depending on additional extras required. I always recommend providing a new spare key as the keys often wear at the same rate as the ignition wafers before they jam. The old keys can then often be unable to turn the new ignition and to re-shell them often destroys them.
